A severe thunderstorm watch is in place for several parts of CA
The watch is in place for the Peace River region, Bulkley Valley and Lakes District, Cariboo, Chilcotin, East Kootenay, Elk Valley, Kootenay Lake, Prince George and Stuart-Nechako.
Environment and Climate Change Canada said conditions are favorable for the development of severe storms in those areas that can produce strong wind gusts, large hail and strong winds.
Residents are asked to stay indoors to avoid injury from lightning.
Storms also increase the risk of wildfires. In an update provided Thursday (July 7), BC Forest Fire Service lead forecaster Matt MacDonald said 11 new fires in the Northwest Fire Center were recently sparked by lighting .
At the same time, the Nechako and Chilcotin Rivers are under a flood watch, the Quesnel River is under a flood warning, and high flow warnings are in place for the Kootenays and North Thompson.
