Renton’s free summer meal program is back to feed the county’s youth

Children and young people up to 18 years of age can participate in the annual summer program.

Starting Monday, June 27, the Renton Summer Meals program is back to provide free meals to children during the 2022 summer vacation.

“We provide thousands of meals every summer,” said Randy Matheson, executive director of community relations for the Renton School District, which has been providing this service in south King County for more than a decade.

The free meal program is for local youth up to 18 years old, no registration or ID required. Matheson said many families make it a picnic since all meals must be eaten on site. Meals are a bag lunch that includes sandwiches, fruit, vegetables and milk or water. The food is provided by Renton Nutrition Services, which also feeds Renton students during the school year.
