Orcas Island Community Foundation ranks first in national survey

Presented by The Orcas Island Community Foundation.

CF Insights Columbus survey results for 2020 have been released.

OICF ranks first out of 207 community foundations nationally for per capita gifts at a rate of $1,266. Although our population is small, our generosity as a community is enormous.

Thanks to donations from more than 800 community members, OICF was able to distribute $5 million in grants during this first year of the pandemic. This represents an annual distribution rate of 29% of OICF’s assets, which also ranks fourth nationally in this survey category. You can see the full list by going to

These rankings are a reflection of the tremendous outpouring of community support that ensured that neighbors who needed help putting food on the table or keeping a roof over their heads had access to help through our dedicated local nonprofits. Rides were provided, billing calls were made, food and medicine were delivered, PPE was distributed, rents and mortgages were paid, all thanks to the generosity of this community.

While the pandemic has certainly affected us all, we were able to lessen many of those impacts because we came together, pulled together, and helped each other.

The community is now recovering, and the nonprofits that served us so well during the crisis are still struggling. GiveOrcas’ next community grant campaign will be launched on May 2nd. This is on track to be the biggest campaign yet and gives the community a chance to make a difference once again.

Grant-seeking organizations provide the essential services and cultural experiences that serve all Orcas. If you’re interested in supporting access to food, affordable housing, the arts, or education, GiveOrcas has options for you!

For those considering contributing appreciated shares, IRA distributions or through a donor advised fund, please contact OICF, 360-376-6423 or info@oicf.us for instructions on the transfer.
